Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide, with myocardial infarction (MI) being one of the main drivers of progression toward heart failure. The abrupt and irreversible loss of cardiomyocytes, combined with vascular disruption, triggers a cascade of events that culminates in fibrotic scar formation. This process permanently impairs the contractile function of the myocardium.
